Freiburg
The results (sketchwise) of a weekend trip to Freiburg in the south of Germany: Historic »department-store«-building (from 1532) opposite to the Cathedral (Münster). Then, driving a few meters up (1.200 m), my first and probably my last snow for this winter (for the temperature now is almost springlike) – and some fast sketches out on the streets during the »Straßenfasnet«, the street carnival that happened to take place on that weekend...

Natural History Museum, Mainz
Saturday 22 of February I´ve spent some time with some fellow sketchers (among them Urban Sketchers Jenny Adam, Andreas Koeniger and Birgit Mueller) at the Natural History Museum in Mainz. Although a part of the museum was closed due to a rennovation, we‘ve had enough themes to draw – in a comfortable setting. I "reactivated" an old brush pen and dared to use a ballpen to go straight away.

Elephants and Crocodiles
Sketching with Lapin and Markus in the Senckenberg Museum Frankfurt. You can chose either to have lots of bones and skulls (Dinosaurs and Co), or you could go for some stuffed furry animals …
At the 42nd International Sketchcrawl I met Birgit and Jenny at the »Weltkulturen Museum«, also Frankfurt. We sketched crocodile boat-stems, creepy skulls and figurines. I failed terrificly to achive some likeness in a wooden male-figure and had a great afternoon anyway.

Hino Contessa
Another »England«-sketch: Hino Contessa 1300, a french-italian-japanese co-production of the 1960's... The London Science Museum has a lot more to offer, of course, not to mention the nearby Natural History Museum. A sketcher‘s paradise. I didn´t get more than this very sketch, but the good news is, both museums will be there for quite a while...

St. Ives, High Tide and the Old Lighthouse
It was low tide, when I began sketching this boat in the huge harbor of St. Ives. I positioned my stool and stuff and was almost done with the drawing, when suddenly I felt the need to turn my head. A tidal wave moved gentle but steadily towards me. I had 5 seconds to grab everything and move away quite a bit with the hope to be able to turn back to my place, but obviously the water had no intentions to disappear. So I decided to face the facts and I moved on to the lighthouse on the Pier, high and dry. After a few minutes, the boat was surrounded by water, the high tide had reconquered the inner harbour again. Therefor I had to colour it later, in a more comfortable place...

St. Michael’s Mount, Cornwall
| Had a great trip to Cornwall – one of the literally thousand places to visit was St. Michael’s Mount. It is located on a small island and can be reached by foot – as long as it´s low tide (similar to his french twin). At high tide you have to take one of the taxi-boats to get there dry. Although we had strong winds on that very day, we dared the passage... |
